Artist’s Statement
I appreciate naturalness and simplicity, I establish an emotional sense with my paintings and seek to reflect these stimuli so that the final image has a sketchy appearance suggested and that ends up being finally interpreted by the spectator.
Biography
My name is Carlos García, also known in the world of urban art as Spogo.I studied illustration at the Pau Gargallo arts and crafts school, combining my academic training with jobs in the construction and housing renovation sector.I started painting in 2002 in a self-taught way and in 2006 I participated in the creation of the Barri Groc collective, formed by artists such as Lucas Milà, Caesar SM172 and Max Gärtner, among others, who began painting murals for shops and events Urban art in a professional way.
From the year 2011, I finished my stage in the collective and alternate my professional work with the performance of interventions in abandoned places, as well as in my hometown of Badalona. From that moment I begin to define my style and what it means for me to paint in the public space. Over the past few years, I have participated in multiple national urban art festivals (Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza, Seville or San Sebastian, among others) and international (Berlin, Ghent, Setè, etc.), exhibitions, projects cultural, artistic residences and educational workshops, combining my work in the public space with private commissions of my works of study and commissioned murals, small, medium and large format.
My working method is flexible depending on each project. I like to adapt my style according to the characteristics of the space, recovering details of the rest of the elements of the environment to incorporate them into my designs, adapting my color palette to the existing ones.
I have extensive knowledge of materials and paints, since I worked for five years in the construction sector. This experience is very useful when I have to adapt to the characteristics and format of the wall, as well as when combining the different work tools to achieve different effects and pictorial techniques, ensuring maximum durability of the final result.My experience, both painting murals in the public space and producing study work, is reflected in the final quality of my interior work.
I am a perfectionist, meticulous and tidy, guaranteeing an optimal value for money.
