Gary Stranger

  • Biography

Typographic artist Gary Stranger began his career as a graffiti artist in 1996, covering the walls and shutters of urban spaces with his distinctive street style. Based in the UK, Stranger now enjoys worldwide renown, famed for his sleek, graphic prints. His passion for typography is far reaching and has guided his aesthetic throughout his artistic career. Clean lines, flat colours, and textured backgrounds characterise Stranger’s contemporary work, which is reminiscent of 1920s, Art Deco type, brought up to date with modern minimalism. All of his work - both on the street and in the studio - consists of hand drawn and painted arrangements. Opting for single words, each one chosen primarily for its visual power, Stranger is never a stranger to the nuances and richness of the English language, always sensitive to the full meaning of every term that he depicts.
